Two thirds of the vineyards in Gers, nearly 12,000 ha, are used for the production of the Côtes de Gascogne wines – over 90% of production is white wine, unusual in a region that is predominantly a supplier of reds.
The Appellation d’origine contrôlée was in extended in 2005 to take in areas of Armagnac and increasing the areas of vineyards to 15,000 ha.
