Vino de la Tierra de Castilla, is a large denomination formed in 1999 taking in winegrowing areas outside the DOs of north east and central Spain. Consistent quality and great value.
Bodegas 1898, formally Bodegas Roqueta, consists of three wineries - of which Vinicola Del País produces wines from Tierra de Castilla.Family owned and in business since 1898 they invested in the del País winery in 2006 - a new project tailored to the company's 100 years of winemaking experience and consumer awareness. Their extensive, modern installations are equipped with cutting-edge technology allowing them to offer top quality wines of great character at a great price. Vinicola Del País is situated near Ciudad Real, Alcazar de San Juan - one of the best areas of Castile - where the high altitude and fertile soil are perfect for producing wines with good flavour profiles. The 600 ha of vineyards are planted by varietal: each plot identified through soil and climatic analysis as being best adapted for each type of grape.
Bodegas 1898 seek to combine the traditional flavours of native Spanish grape varieties with the latest winemaking trends. This offers a wide choice of wines including the newer, more conceptual style of Marques de Luna which reflect the latest advances in the international field of viticulture and oenology.
Marques de Luna white - is made from Macabeo, also known as Viura, in a light style with good lemon and lime zest rounding off the palate.
Marques de Luna rosé - is a deep coloured Tempranillo with strawberry aromas and plenty of fruit.
Syte - is a superb blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Tempranillo aged in French and American oak for 14 months. This limited production of 24,000 bottles has a cellaring life of 10 years.
