Navarra lies east of and adjacent to Rioja. Growing many of the same varietals of its more famous neighbour and catching
up in terms of technological investment it offers great value for money. The regions reputation was built on its rose wines;
now the whites and especially the reds, some blended with international varietals, provide excellent drinking.
The large Bodegas del Romero was formed in Cascante by the merger of
three Co-operative cellars from the three different areas of Navarra:
Ribera Alta, Tierra Estella and Ribera Baja. This has allowed blending from
the these sub-areas to achieve perfectly balanced wines. Cascante itself
is a small vinegrowing town in the south of Navarra, characterised by
small vineyards covering over 1,100 hectares of land. Del Romero is
considered to be among the most important Bodegas in Navarra and is a
pioneer in the varietal conversion of vineyards. Today it has 1,000
members and a capacity for 12 million litres. Quality results from selection
of top grapes from its own vineyards and painstaking vinification.
Bodegas Nuestra Señora del Romero:
Torrecilla - meaning small tower, has been a mainstay on our list for many years and is now presented with a modern label. All three wines - red, white and rosé - are unoaked single varietals.
Senor de Cascante Gran Reserva - is 85% Tempranillo, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in American oak for 28 months. It exhibits wonderful bottle age and has an excellent aroma with spicy notes blending with fruit and mellow oak.
