Kaiserdom’s modern brewery has a production capacity of 300,000 hectolitres. The Kaiserdom brand name was established in 1976 to focus on a more modern beer style for the world market, now supplied to 25 countries on all 5 continents: beers from Bamburg being highly regarded by beer connoisseurs around the world.
Kaiserdom was founded in the historic city of Bamberg in 1718, originally
as a brew house supplying a restaurant owned by one of the monasteries.
It has been run by the Worner family since 1910 and is now the city’s
largest brewery - relocating to a purpose built site in the early 1970s.
Kaiserdom’s modern plant and image comfortably sits alongside the
regions brewing tradition and heritage.
Bamberg lies in the Franconia part of Bavaria - a brewing heartland still
boasting over 300 breweries, with Franconia having the highest density
of breweries in the world. Bamberg is regarded as the centre of brewing
excellence: a decree of 1489 “When brewing take nothing more than
hops, malt and water” predates the famous and often cited Bavarian Purity
Law by 27 years. Referred to as Germany’s ‘Beer City’ Bamberg could
count sixty breweries in 1818. Now just eight remain.
Though founded nearly 300 years ago Kaiserdom in one of the younger
companies in Bamberg still brewing. It takes its name from the city’s
Kaiser Dom, meaning Emperor’s Cathedral, which was built by the
Emperor Heinrich II in 1007; an impressive monument central to
Bamberg being a Unesco World Heritage site. The brands trademark of
the ‘Bamberg Rider’ is a famous sculpture of a medieval knight on
horseback - the earliest equestrian statue in Germany - which is an
important artifact in the cathedral.
The Kaiserdom range of beers:
Pilsener - clear pale lager, finely hopped and lightly aromatic with a distinct dryness.
Helles - original ‘Urtyp’ Munich style, golden colour with notable malt sweetness and a little less bitterness.
Hefe-Weissbier - a naturally cloudy wheat beer, light in colour with citrus aromatics and a rounded fruitiness.
Dunkel - rich, dark lager with aromas of roasted barley; distinctive
and surprisingly refreshing.
