Fischer started production in 1821 in Strasbourg, Alsace as the Polar Bear Brewery, changing
its name in 1838 to honour its founder Jean Fischer. The brewery moved to the outskirts of
the city in 1854 to take advantage of a superior water supply.
Beers are made by the traditional open fermentation with some recipes, unchanged, dating
back 200 years. The 650ml bottles are of the original swing-top design and feature the
embossed image of ‘Bonhomme Fischer’ who has been the company’s logo since 1930.
Fischer:
Tradition is an amber Bière d’Alsace - a golden lager. It is lightly hopped with more dominant malt flavours and aromas; smooth, with some fruit and flowery undertones and low carbonation.
Reserve Ambrée shows a tawny/deep amber colour and pours with a thick creamy head. It has a rounded, smooth malty taste with caramel and fuity notes and some light sweet spice such as clove. Very moreish.
Adelscott “The Different Beer” was first brewed in1982 at the Adelshoffen Brewery (a subsidiary of Fischer) and within five years had become a great success in the French market. It was the first ever ale to be brewed using peat-smoked whisky malt in the mash. It is this ingredient that gives the beer
its amber colour and distinctive taste - deep smokey aromas with caramel and fruit. This sweetness is balanced by hoppy bitterness on the finish. A strong,
unique beer that is appreciated by those drawn to speciality ales.
